As you may or may not know, Croatia has officially joined the EU. It's official because I found this picture online.
Alissa and I set off for Croatia the 10th of June on a bus to Zagreb. The lack of both English and German spoken on said bus quickly made us realize we weren't on the most beaten path anymore. And we didn't know any Croatian. ADVENTURE RIGHT?! The words we'd learned to mutter lamely by the end of our trip were hvala (thank you) and dobra dan (hello). That's it. I still can't spell the actual name of Croatia ---Hrvatska. There, I googled it! We arrived safely in Zagreb after some stops at the Bosnian border and spent three days perusing the city. Our hostel was perfectly central and everything was easy as pie.
Split:
Alissa and I flew to Split where we met up with Mike and Amanda. Split is home to Roman emperor Diocletian's palace, which was built at the turn of the 4th century AD. It once looked like this:
It now looks like this:
We spent another few days in Split exploring the Palace, going swimming in the Adriatic, eating wonderful meals prepared by Mike and being thankful we didn't live there. So many tourists! but not as many as Dubrovnik...
And that's Split.
